Short & sweet
As of 27 September 2026, B2C shops require the standardised EU statutory warranty notice, unaltered and visible prior to purchase.
The GARAN label is only added if the manufacturer provides a free commercial warranty of more than 2 years for the entire product.
From 1 October 2026, the withdrawal button is mandatory, otherwise the withdrawal period is extended.
If customers choose repair instead of replacement, the statutory warranty is extended once by 1 year.
The obligation to repair lies with manufacturers; retailers only in the case of imports from third countries.
Shopify does not have a native withdrawal button; WooCommerce solves many requirements via Germanized 4.1 or German Market 4.0.
The statutory warranty label in online shops has been mandatory since Sunday, 27 September 2026. On 1 October, the revocation button and the repair amendment will follow. If you sell goods to end consumers, your shop is affected from three sides simultaneously. In plain English, this means you should take a look at your theme and checkout today.
Below, you will find a summary including click paths for Shopify and WooCommerce. (As of 29/09/2026, not legal advice.)
“Three new regulations in four days, and Shopify offers no native solution for the revocation button.”

What is really changing with the warranty label in online shops?
The amendment consists of four components arriving in rapid succession.
The statutory warranty notice (since 27/09). The Consumer Rights Amendment Act 2026 (Verbraucherrechts-Änderungsgesetz) implements EU Directive 2024/825. According to the WKO, merchants must display a standardised, unalterable EU-wide notice stating that goods are subject to a statutory warranty right. It must be visible before purchase, online, for instance on the website and in the order confirmation. The technical basis is Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, including a QR code and colour version.
The GARAN label (since 27/09, only when applicable). If the manufacturer provides a free commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years covering the entire product, you additionally require the GARAN label. According to the WKO, it belongs on the product page, in the checkout summary, and in the confirmation email, supplemented by the guarantee period, brand, and model identifier.
The revocation button (from 01/10). Shops require a "Revoke contract" function, followed by a short form, then "Confirm revocation", and a confirmation via email. According to the WKO, this applies to contracts concluded after 30 September 2026. Originally scheduled for 19 June, the Federal Council (Bundesrat) moved the start date to 1 October with the enactment of the law on 15 July 2026. If the button is missing, the revocation period is extended.
The repair amendment (from 01/10). The Right to Repair Implementation Act was promulgated in the Federal Law Gazette on 27 July 2026. If consumers opt for repair instead of replacement in a warranty case, the warranty is extended once by one year according to the WKO, up to a maximum of three years.
Who is affected and who is not?
Affected is anyone selling goods to consumers. According to seo-küche, this covers specialist retailers as well as marketplace sellers. For the revocation button, any distance contract concluded via an online interface counts—such as a web shop, app, or console.
Not affected are pure B2B contracts. Regarding the revocation button, contracts concluded solely through individual communication such as telephone or email are also exempt (WKO). According to seo-küche, the label does not apply to purely digital products and services. All aspects of the repair amendment apply exclusively towards consumers.
For retailers, there is some relief here. The actual obligation to repair lies with the manufacturers, followed by authorised representatives and importers. According to the WKO, you are only the direct contact if you import goods from outside the EU yourself. Moreover, it only applies to products with EU repair specifications, which according to KONSUMENT include washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, televisions, smartphones, and tablets.
Why does this affect SMEs and major brands alike?
SMEs rarely have a legal department, relying instead on plugins with default settings. Corporations have legal departments, but also five shops, eight languages, and product data from twenty supplier systems. According to seo-küche, the "biggest practical issue" for both is identical: manufacturer guarantee details arriving incomplete or inconsistently.
Additionally, there is a social aspect. Anyone sending traffic to product pages via Instagram Shopping, ads, or TikTok Shop is selling on a surface that now contains mandatory elements. Your design thus receives rigid boundaries, because according to creeb, the label may neither be recoloured nor tailored to your design. Promoting the statutory warranty as an "advantage", by the way, is a typical mistake, as it is a legal requirement.
How do you implement this in Shopify and WooCommerce?
These seven steps apply regardless of the platform.
Determine applicability. List B2C markets, active languages, and pure B2B channels.
Record GARAN products. Document manufacturer, model, guarantee period, free of charge yes/no, full coverage yes/no per item.
Use official label files. RGB version, unaltered, do not replace the QR code (creeb).
Position the statutory warranty notice prominently. Shop level, checkout, and order confirmation—not merely hidden in the footer.
Integrate the revocation button. Accessible without login, throughout the entire revocation period, accompanied by an email confirmation.
Adjust GTCs and the warranty page. Reflect the choice of repair over replacement and the one-time one-year extension.
Test everything. Mobile, all languages, guest checkout, and all payment methods.
Shopify
Implement the label as a global theme section or app block. For the order confirmation, adjust the email template under Settings → Notifications. It is best to maintain GARAN data as metafields per product. In the checkout, according to creeb: with Shopify Plus, deploy a Checkout UI extension; on standard plans, an additional confirmation step under Settings → General → Order processing helps. Test express checkout methods such as Shop Pay or Apple Pay separately, as they often bypass the cart.
Regarding the revocation button, Shopify currently offers no native solution; in the Help Center, the platform refers to self-service returns and cancellation rules. Realistic approaches involve an app (e.g. linked to orders) or a custom build using Shopify Forms and Flow.
WooCommerce
The quickest path is via Germanized from version 4.1 or German Market from 4.0. The label options can be found in Germanized under WooCommerce → Settings → Germanized → Price Display; shortcodes such as [gzd_legal_guarantee] or [gm_legal_guarantee_label] (Webchaniker) are also available. After updating, the label is disabled by default, and with the block checkout, you must add the blocks manually. According to easyRechtssicher, Germanized, German Market, or standalone plugins provide the revocation button. Verify that the phrasing and deadlines align with the Austrian statutory provisions, as these guides are partly tailored to German legislation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions About the Warranty Amendment for Online Shops
From when does the statutory warranty label apply in Austrian webshops?
The harmonised statutory warranty notice has applied since 27 September 2026. The withdrawal button is mandatory as of 1 October 2026 (for contracts concluded after 30 September 2026), and the Goods Repair Directive Implementation Act also enters into force on 1 October 2026.
Do I have to offer repairs myself as a webshop?
As a rule, no. The repair obligation primarily lies with manufacturers, followed by authorised representatives and importers. As a trader/retailer, you are only the first point of contact if you import goods from outside the EU.
Does the amendment also apply to B2B shops?
No. The new regulations only apply vis-à-vis consumers. With respect to the withdrawal button, B2B contracts as well as contracts concluded exclusively via individual communication such as telephone or email are exempt.
Do I need the GARAN label for every product?
No. It is only required if the manufacturer provides a free commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years for the entire product. It belongs on the product page, in the checkout summary, and in the confirmation email.
What happens if the withdrawal button is missing?
The withdrawal period is extended if the button is missing or does not meet the requirements. It must be accessible without logging in, remain available throughout the entire withdrawal period, and lead to an email confirmation via a form and the button "Confirm withdrawal".
Are there turnkey solutions for Shopify and WooCommerce?
For WooCommerce, Germanized from version 4.1 and German Market from version 4.0 cover the label; withdrawal features are provided by these or standalone plugins. According to industry sources, Shopify does not offer a native withdrawal feature; here, apps or a custom build with Shopify Forms and Flow can help. You integrate the label via a theme section or app block.
